National Prescription Database describing the use of BEA WebLogic® Platform 8.1
Customer Service describing the use of WebLogic Platform 8.1
Apoteket has an exclusive right to provide prescription drugs to Swedish citizens wholly-owned by the Swedish state. Apoteket is also responsible for the purchasing and supply of drugs to the health services. These healthcare principles have the option of assuming responsibility for this under their own management, and all have chosen Apoteket as their service provider. With more than 12,800 employees and approximately 900 pharmacies, Apoteket's aim is to be responsible for the safe and reliable use of drugs.
There are two case studies from Apoteket: National Prescription database, and another on Customer Service. Both are summarized below.

Apoteket needed to enhance the safe and swift distribution of drugs, including information concerning the content and history of prescriptions, as well as daily price changes to medicine. They wanted to replace outmoded, paper-based medical prescription services, optimize systems availability, and performance and enable seamless integration of new services.
Deployed BEA WebLogic Platform to create a new national database of prescription records. BEA and HP application resides in a highly resilient server middleware environment, consisting of 6 HP L-class servers, running HP-UX 11i in a 64 bit RISC (PA-Risc) processor architecture. Server clustered using HP Serviceguard clustering software.
Provided physicians, pharmacies, hospitals and other healthcare agencies in Sweden with a shared single, unified view of records, including medication use, amounts used and amounts remaining. Allows a unified view of nine million medical prescriptions in Sweden and enabled 100 percent guaranteed satisfaction.

Implement a service-oriented architecture on BEA WebLogic Platform in order to centralise and integrate the process of sending out information and provide better service to customers.
The new SOA improves time-to-market for Web applications, reduces IT costs, and decreases the use of paper prescriptions. Company anticipates that the integration project will pay for itself over a five year time period.
