Aracruz Celulose S.A. is the world's leading producer of bleached eucalyptus pulp. It is headquartered in Espirito Santo, Brazil. The world's leading supplier of bleached eucalyptus pulp to the paper industry, the company operates three pulp mills — one at Barra do Riacho in Espírito Santo state, other at Guaíba in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and another one in Eunápolis in the state of Bahia (the latter a 50% joint venture with Stora Enso). It also runs forestry operations in these states as well as in the state of Minas Gerais.
Aracruz's executives wanted more control over the organization's process workflow. To this end, Aracruz's IT department looked for business process management tools to implement process controls within the organization.
Using AquaLogic® BPM Suite, Aracruz established two process workflows. The first project focused on controlling contracts associated with the organization's Forestry Partners Program, which establishes partnership arrangements with independent farmers for the planting of eucalyptus trees on unproductive land. This process assures that strict guidelines are met by Aracruz's workers. The second project establishes a process for management traceability. Whenever an individual, for example, requires an investment in new company resources, an approval process begins. The individual submits a request and ALBPM automatically routs the information to the appropriate individuals for their approval.
By implementing ALBPM, Aracruz established strict control over its internal processes. This allows the organization to reduce cost-related inefficiencies in their workflow.
