BEA eWorld Rocks at Universal Studios

Marvel Super Hero Island at Universal Studios in Orlando is filled with state-of-the-art, technology-driven entertainment, making it the perfect place for BEA to hold its eWorld 2003 evening extravaganza Tuesday night. Attendees rode one the world's fastest rollercoasters, danced with superheroes, and fought in a virtual reality arena.

The most adventurous attendees braved The Hulk, a monstrous rollercoaster that accelerates riders from zero to 40 mph in two seconds, then whips them through loops and turns that could rattle the bravest superhero. According to Universal, "Once it's over, you'll know what it's like to be the green one."

Slightly tamer but equally cool was the Amazing Adventures of Spider Man ride. The world's first virtual reality rollercoaster uses 3D glasses to fool riders into thinking they're being attacked by Spider Man's foes and dropped from skyscrapers, only to be saved at the last minute by the web-slinger.

Those too timid to brave the rides still had plenty of activities from which to choose. The Kingpin Arcade was packed for most of the evening. Attendees got a chance to play some of the latest video games, as well as more traditional amusements such as foosball, air hockey, and skeeball. In one corner, attendees threw punches and kicks at each other – virtually. They were actually controlling animated characters fighting on-screen in a virtual reality arena, so there was no need to break up the battle.

Outside, the warm Florida air was filled with rock 'n roll, courtesy of The Zoo, who were recently selected as finalists in MTV's Ultimate Cover Band contest. Attendees danced to the latest hits with X-Men and other superheroes.

The party was sponsored by BEA Partners HP and Intel Corporation.
