At the start of fiscal ’02, BEA had 9,400 customers. At year’s end: 12,500. Customer and market momentum has continued this year with nearly 500 new customers choosing BEA in the quarter ended April 30, 2002.

A surprising number of these wins are competitive rip-outs, customers that replace installed – but failed – technology from competitors with BEA WebLogic. As the demands and complexity of distributed computing in the enterprise pushed our competitors’ technology to the breaking point, BEA was called in again and again to save the day.

In addition to the growth in our customer base, we also achieved growth in the number of large deals at the end of a challenging year. In Q402, BEA closed 18 deals above $1 million, twice as many as Q3. The increasing number of large enterprise deals highlights our sales force’s ability to build great relationships very high in customer organizations, and shows that the BEA WebLogic Enterprise Platform has become increasingly strategic to the IT architectures of our global customers.
