  Welcome to Arch2Arch

Welcome to the premier issue of the Arch2Arch newsletter. This new publication is the latest component of BEA's commitment to be the Architect's ally, providing you with information, insights, tools and resources to help ensure your success.

Every other month, we'll deliver to your inbox the kind of content you expect from an industry leader in enterprise infrastructure: clear-eyed analysis of new trends, updates on the latest technologies, real-life success stories, best practice strategies, and expert advice on what to do and what to watch out for. But this isn't a one-way conversation. This newsletter is part of our newly expanded Arch2Arch program to provide critical value to the architect community — through content, tools, events and opportunities to connect with peers and advisors. Stay tuned as we develop and deliver this program to you — and be sure to let us know what you like and what you'd like more of.

  Demystifying Security Standards

Making sense of WSS, SAML, and XACML
In the last three years, several standards related to Information Security have been developed, notably Web Services Security (WSS), the Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML), and the Extensible Access Control Markup Language (XACML). How were they developed? Why are they needed and how are they used? Get a brief overview of these three standards, including how they related to each other and to existing security standards. Future articles will examine each in more detail.

Taking the "Quick Win" Approach to SOA

Swiftly proving value to the business
Adopting SOA can be difficult for both business and IT executives. IT must be able to identify the services infrastructure required to deliver business solutions — and to demonstrate "quick wins" that show value and keep the business side engaged.

Based on the SOA principles of coarse-grained, loosely coupled, and standards-bases services, service-oriented infrastructure enables IT to be proactive. It increases your ability to respond to changing business needs by providing global solutions, reduced application and infrastructure complexity, increased reuse of business services, and service orchestration capabilities. In short, this approach enables IT organizations to meet market challenges by transforming themselves along with the business.

  Next-Generation Component Models

What you need to know in one Webinar
As applications become more complex and dynamic, existing programming models face a number of challenges. Find out how service-oriented technology can address:
  • The growing need to compose applications of loosely coupled services
  • The need for "dynamic" middleware that can adapt to various service-based architectures
  • The proliferation and volatility of protocols, particularly in the area of web services
  • The reconvergence of synchronous and asynchronous programming, and the need for a unifying framework.

Lifecycle Management
 more >
This session addresses questions concerning Service Registry (SR). What is the role of an SR in a Service Infrastructure? What are the key features of an enterprise SR? What is UDDI and how does it enable an SR for SOA (Service-Oriented Architecture)? How does an SR enable SOA governance and lifecycle management? How does the BEA AquaLogic Service Registry™ work with BEA AquaLogic and BEA WebLogic products and what is the joint value proposition? How will the role of an SR change as enterprises evolve their use of SOA? Come learn about how the SR enables enterprise SOA.
