Re: Side-by-side Deployment, and Service Component Architecture

A new year, a new look. Okay, we're a little early. What do you think of the new layout? It's in beta, so drop me a line with your thoughts.

We've published many articles this week, so I'd like to call out just two. The first, Production-time Redeployment of Applications in WebLogic Server 9.0 shows how to deploy two versions of an application side-by-side. This allows you to migrate from one version of an application to another, in a production environment, while retaining sessions. That's a great developer feature, and reinforces the "no time for down time" mantra.

The second article I'd like to highlight is Service Component Architecture. In short, this looks to be another brick in the SOA implementation strategy. SOA is all about composition, and SCA looks like a concrete approach to performing composition. Learn more about it in Bill Roth's blog, where he describes it as "focusing on being able to describe assemblies of components which have been written in a variety programming models and protocols."

BEA Offers SOA Certification Program to Architects

BEA has announced an enterprise architect certification for SOA. BEA recognizes that deploying SOA requires additional skills, knowledge and experience, and is committed to ensuring your successful SOA deployment. The program, uniquely tailored to architects who oversee the design of enterprise applications and infrastructures that leverage BEA technologies, aims to validate the candidates' ability in applying the BEA SOA Domain Model and reference architecture to enterprise-scale scenarios, and to deal with technical and organizational issues by using best practices, design principles and industry standard organizational models.

The certification consists of three exams. Successful completion of each phase is required to advance to the next. The first phase, now available, is: BEA SOA Foundations Approval. It tests the candidate's understanding of SOA concepts and BEA's SOA Domain Model and Reference Architecture.

Feel free to explore the SOA certification program, and BEA's SOA Domain Model and Reference Architecture.
