Re: Dev2Dev Days 2006 - Struts, Ajax, Spring, JDO 2.0 and Hibernate, Tomcat management with WLS console

The Dev2Dev Days 2006 seminar series is kicking off soon, hopefully in a city near you. The agenda looks pretty interesting, covering many of the technologies found in today's agile Web development world: Web tier development including BEA Workshop Studio™, Struts and the new Tomcat console management; Business tier technologies such as the Spring Framework; and Data tier O/R technologies such as EJB 3.0, JDO 2.0 and Hibernate.

These day-long seminars are free for Dev2Dev members and will take place in a few dozen cities across North America, Europe and Asia beginning 21 March. Check out the the Dev2Dev Days Web site and pop along for the day.

Regards,
  Jon Mountjoy
  Editor, BEA Dev2Dev

PS: Check out this demonstration showing support for EJB 3 in BEA Workshop Studio 3.0.

New Blogs

I'd like to welcome Gerald Kanapathy to our blogging community. It looks like Gerald will be blogging about AquaLogic (see Plumtree, it's called what now?), and he has already made a great start.

I'd also like to welcome Sheng Sheen. Sheng's first entry looks at the virtual classroom session Upgrading WebLogic Server to 9.0.

Finally, Gabriel Bechara has also started blogging about WebLogic Portal, WebLogic Integration and WebLogic Server. His first blog looks at Application architecture using Weblogic Integration, showing how to build WebLogic Workshop and WebLogic Integration applications that promote re-use and team work.

A Selection from the Blogs

In the blogs, Steve Bennett asks Is 2006 the year that SOA really takes off?. He provides an analysis based on the hype cycle and adoption lifecycle models, and it makes for an interesting read.

Daniel Brookshier provides a nice look at Subversion Thinking. Are you thinking of using Subversion as a source control system? If so, read Daniel's blog about SVN and about the support for SVN at CodeShare.

Quinton Wall writes BEA acquires Fuego. What does it mean to us? If you don't know that BEA recently acquired this business process management solution company, then read Quinton's blog.

Finally, Bill Roth looks at Indemnity and Warranty in the age of Open Source, sharing with us BEA's position on these issues. In another blog entry, Bill also notes that BEA Workshop Studio is as finalist in EclipseCon awards.

BEA Education Services is introducing a more flexible way to learn. Starting February 2006, a set of modular courses has been made available for customers who seek to get trained on advanced administration topics for BEA WebLogic Server 9.1.

Instead of a 5-day course to cover everything, the modular courses provide a more focused approach with more comprehensive content. The duration of each course ranges from one to three days, which allows you to choose targeted training on the topics that are the most relevant to you.

The following courses are available now:

  • BEA WebLogic Server 9.1: Advanced Security

  • BEA WebLogic Server 9.1: WebLogic Diagnostics Framework

Other courses will be available soon. For more information, contact education@bea.com.
