Re: Reinventing SOA, JVM Tuning and WebLogic Real Time

"We don't have time to keep up to date," is the message I got from many Dev2Dev readers at a recent seminar that I attended. Here is how to (easily) stay in touch with Dev2Dev and the material that we publish without visiting our home page on a random basis:

  • Via email: Subscribe to Dev2Dev Dispatch (you're reading it)—published approximately twice a month.
  • Via blog: Subscribe to the Editor's Blog (feed here)—published approximately once a week, it summarizes all Dev2Dev activity that week.
  • Via RSS: We also have article, blog and event feeds that list all articles, blogs and events as they happen.

Regards,

An Introduction to WebLogic Real Time

Sometimes you need something done now. This article introduces the WebLogic Real Time server, a combination of a deterministic JRockit JVM, WebLogic Server 9.1 and the Spring Framework; designed to deliver a platform for real-time computation.

SOA: Are We Reinventing the Wheel?

Do you get a feeling of déjà vu when you hear vendors pitching new technologies? Nick Simha does, and so investigated the hype around Service Oriented Architecture, looking at CORBA, DCom, J2EE, Web services and the new kid on the block, service infrastructure, en route.

Performance Analysis of the WebLogic Real Time 1.0 "Trader" Application

BEA WebLogic Real Time (WLRT) is designed to support real-time applications with fast, predictable response times and low latency. This article provides a performance analysis of WLRT and its JRockit JVM that uses deterministic garbage collection.

Enabling Java-based VoIP backend platforms through JVM performance tuning

Applications that require high throughput, such as BEA WebLogic SIP Server, can't afford long JVM garbage collection pauses. This article shows how the JVM can be tuned to optimize for low latency or execution time in these scenarios.

A Selection from the Blogs

In the blogs, I provide some coverage of the London Dev2Dev Days event: Part 1: Web Tier and Part 2: Business and Data Tier.

Henrik Stâhl gives some great advice in Benchmarking Java: Don't forget warmup!. Henrik says, "To get the most out of your Java application, you must let the JVM warm up." He goes on to show how to use the -Xverbose:opt option to let you know when the warmup is complete.

Bill Roth looks at JavaOne: A look back, and predictions for this year. I'll be at JavaOne too, so pop in to the Dev2Dev booth and say "Hi."

Gabriel Bechara continues his investigation of re-use and co-deployment in WebLogic Integration in Application architecture using Weblogic Integration - Part 2.

Finally, Sheng Sheen writes about SIP Servlets vs. JAIN-SIP. Sheng points out that JAIN-SIP "is for use with the J2SE platform. Its uses include the development of stand-alone user-agent, proxy and registrar applications." He also points to Ken Lee's latest blog entry, New entrants validate BEA WLCP's industry leadership.
