WebLogic Event Server + WebLogic Server Virtual Edition + BEA Workshop 10.1

You wait for an application server, then two come along at once. The first is WebLogic Event Server, described as “a new Java application server designed specifically for modeling and deploying event driven architecture based real time applications.” Check out the screencast for a nice description (another one here) or subscribe to the product center for more.

The second application server is WebLogic Server Virtual Edition. Arvind describes it as “with a single command, WebLogic Server instances can quickly be deployed onto VMware ESX-enabled resource pools, fully integrated and tuned to run within their own dedicated virtual machines... all without any 3rd party operating systems.” Read that again. *Without* 3rd party operating systems. Cool!

Finally, BEA has also just released BEA Workshop 10.1. This is a major release, fully integrating both Workshop products into a single codebase, introducing lots of new features, and changes to the pricing and packaging. Bill has the details.

Learn more about Virtualization
Yu-Ting describes two new courses in Learn more about Virtualization. The first is “BEA WebLogic Server Virtual Edition: Essential Concepts”, and the second, “BEA WebLogic Server 10: System Administration with Virtualization Module.” It sounds interesting: “This course teaches the benefits of server virtualization and trains BEA WebLogic Server system administrators on the use of VMware and BEA WebLogic Server Virtual Edition to build cost-effective and highly agile J2EE deployment environments.” Also read Yu-Ting’s entertaining Taking SOA to the Enterprise - now what?
